ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve always loved exploring the musicality of songwriting, and have always felt drawn towards making instrumental music. Sitting with a 7 minute sustain of a single chord to build an entryway to a feeling unexplained, or a visual companion of nostalgia and memories. Music just does that, but for me being on this path towards making and writing this record began with morning meditations on the guitar. During a very challenging time over the span of a year or more, I began creating guitar-based loops every morning in my small apartment in Echo Park, CA. Leading with small and subtle symphonies of fast picking texture, long peaceful drones, or singular notes, all on my guitar. For months I would make these loops, then once I felt like one was done, I would let the loop play over and over while getting ready for the day. These morning meditations saved me, and the more I started making them and listening to them, the more I felt compelled to share them, because of the peace and hope I felt making and listening to them. With minimal savings, I quit my restaurant job in LA and set up a humble recording set up in a living room in Memphis, Tennessee and recorded 6 instrumental tracks in about 5 weeks. A couple of amps, one microphone and my Harmony Stratotone. I wanted it to be simple, and to explore creating sounds and textures with just my guitar, and the bare minimum. With that, I offer to you my first instrumental record, Activity Dream.
CORRINA REPP
